about the artist
Hoang's work is endlessly interested in how our memories colour places. With a signature romantic perspective from his lens, he renders scenes and subjects with layers of meaning and captures the tenderness between people and with themselves, often in familiar, seemingly mundane environments.
A 2019 graduate from the University of Toronto with a degree in Cinema Studies, Hoang is a self taught photographer. Drawn to the immersion of 2000s era rom coms, the poetics and freedom of Tyler Mitchell's photography, and the quiet study of emotion from Asian filmmakers like JIa Zhangke, Wong Kar-wai, and Celine Song, Hoang creates visual worlds that feel simultaneously intimate and wistful.
